@ Anthrogen
Anthrogen — Founding Strategic Operations (1 opening). Location: San Francisco, in person. Comp: $120k–$200k depending on experience, 0.1–0.5% equity, ~1.5x industry average. Experience: First ops hire for the company. Young, extremely high-agency generalist who will own everything from recruiting to finance to legal to lab/office operations and onboarding — a chief-of-staff type (not a title we'll hire for directly now; likely an internal promotion if they're great). Ideal candidate has a technical undergrad (math, physics, CS, biophysics) or comparable technical expertise, and is the kind of person who may want to start a company down the line. Young enough to be willing to do anything.
Role summary: They'll be our first operations hire and the person who keeps the company running — recruiting, finance, legal, vendors, lab and office logistics, onboarding, and whatever else is on fire that week. No task too big or too small. We're a small, fast team, so this is a high-trust, high-context role for a versatile generalist who wants to learn how a frontier company gets built from the inside — and who may want to start their own one day.
Critical (must-haves): Generalist with a technical undergrad (math, physics, CS, biophysics) or demonstrable technical ability. Comfort around scientists and engineers, and in technical conversations. Extremely high agency and ownership — genuinely willing to do anything, from building a recruiting pipeline to filing expenses to a lab-supply run. Strong communication and organization; can hold the company's operational context in their head. Young / early-career, in-person, hungry, and fast.
Important (bonuses): Experience operating in a startup, founding team, or similarly unstructured high-velocity environment. Exposure to recruiting, finance, or legal/ops functions. Undergrad pedigree.
Nice-to-haves: Has built something of their own (company, club, serious project, side hustle). Entrepreneurial drive — wants to start a company someday and treats this as the best possible training, or has previously started a company. Familiarity with the AI and/or biotech ecosystem; in-tune with modern tech discourse. Data / spreadsheet / automation fluency. The "whatever it takes" temperament and real excitement for the mission.
