Head of Forward Deployed Engineering at 1001 AI (P0). Senior hands-on FDE who can own deployments end-to-end, work directly with customers, ship software quickly, and coach more junior FDEs. NOT a pure manager role — sets the standard for how forward deployed work should be done.
Responsibilities: Own customer deployments from discovery through go-live; embed with customers, understand their workflows, and translate ambiguous requirements into working software; build out demos to gauge customer interest; ship full-stack features quickly while keeping quality; write clear specs that turn customer needs into engineering work; distinguish between one-off customer asks and reusable features; coach junior FDEs on customer communication, scoping, execution, and technical depth; work closely with product, ML, infra, and full-stack teams to unblock deployments.
Requirements: 5+ years as a strong forward deployed engineer, field engineer, or similar customer-facing engineering role; strong full-stack capability with TypeScript / React and Python or Node; has shipped real software in front of customers; comfortable working directly with enterprise customers, including on-site; high ownership, strong communication, ability to operate through ambiguity; able to coach junior engineers while remaining hands-on.
Bonus: prior FDE / Solutions Engineering / Field Engineering experience at a Palantir-style company; AI-native products; operationally complex industries.
