Founding Engineer — Neander (Bengaluru / India, in-person)
About Neander Neander is building a context-driven system of delivery that turns tribal knowledge into execution — a platform where humans and software agents plan, decide, and ship software together, from planning through pull request. We are building at the frontier of AI-native software development.
The Role We are hiring founding engineers to build the core product alongside the founders. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for engineers who ship fast, think from first principles, and treat modern AI systems as a core part of their daily workflow. You will own significant parts of the product end to end, work directly with founders, and set the technical bar for the team.
This role is in-person in India. Candidates must already be based in India.
Hiring Bar (we maintain an exceptionally high bar) Candidates should ideally meet at least one of the following:
We are NOT looking for candidates who are merely learning AI or experimenting with basic AI tools. Every engineer is expected to be deeply AI-native and to use modern AI systems (for software development, research, automation, product creation, and technical problem-solving) as a core part of their daily workflow — not casual ChatGPT/Claude use.
Candidates from traditional industries (banking, consulting, large enterprises) should be able to point to substantial AI-related side projects, startups, open-source contributions, research, patents, or commercially deployed systems demonstrating genuine technical curiosity and execution.
We particularly value individuals who:
Rule of thumb: if a candidate would not naturally be considered among the strongest engineers in their peer group, they are unlikely to be a fit. We optimize for rare talent, technical depth, exceptional execution, and genuine AI-native thinking.
