Member of Technical Staff — Growth Hacker (Honcho) at Plastic Labs
NYC, Full-Time, In-Person. Base $185K-$205K + equity.
The situation: Honcho is ripping. 50x developer growth in three months. 40,000 prosumers and developers. 600+ startups applied to the startup program in eight weeks. Plastic Labs is a product-coupled neolab solving personal identity for the agentic world (the market calls it memory; the vision is 1:1 individual alignment). The product wins on merit; this hire makes Honcho impossible to ignore. Works closely with GTM, DevRel, Design Engineers and the co-founders.
The job: the product does the hard part, you do the loud part.
- Launches: make every ship a moment (assets, timing, seeding, follow-through)
- Social: the company voice where developers live; contributions to AI discourse
- Content: media that tells Honcho's story to Plastic's editorial standards
- Events: meetups, hackathons, launches, collabs IRL and distributed
- Artifacts: videos, demos, objects, merch people actually want
- Iteration: define and measure what's working, adapt
You (from the JD):
- Can point to things you made that got attention: an account, a video, an event, a product, a bit. Scale matters less than signature.
- Agent harnesses are how you work: Claude Code, Hermes Agent or equivalent, daily, for real output.
- Range: cut a video, write a thread, run an event, spin up a collab, ship a page without waiting for a team.
- Enough technical depth to hold the product in your head: grok code, orchestrate models, reason about LLM systems.
- High literacy, technical and conceptual, written and spoken.
- You are Honcho's audience: AI developer native.
- Taste: knows attention from noise.
- NYC in person, or ready to move.
RECRUITER CALIBRATION NOTES (apply strictly — this is the actual bar):
The JD says "we don't care where you worked or for how long." Do NOT read that as a low bar. Unstructured JDs like this attract self-branded "growth hackers" with buzzword profiles and zero verifiable output. The bar here is INCREDIBLY high and is evidence-based rather than pedigree-based:
- VERIFIABLE DISTRIBUTION WINS (non-negotiable): at least one named, checkable thing the candidate made that traveled — a launch that hit #1 on Product Hunt or the Hacker News front page, an account/newsletter/YouTube with a real audience in the AI/dev space, a viral demo or video, a hackathon or event series people know, a product with organic traction. Self-described titles ("growth hacker", "personal brand strategist", "LinkedIn ghostwriter") with no artifacts = auto-reject.
- REAL TECHNICAL DEPTH (non-negotiable): ships code or working demos (GitHub, live projects), works with LLMs and agent tooling daily, can reason about how an AI infra product works. Pure marketers, social media managers, and content agencies = auto-reject.
- RANGE + CRAFT: evidence across at least two media (video + writing, events + shipped pages, memes + code). Editorial taste visible in their public work.
- AUDIENCE NATIVE: visibly part of the AI developer scene (X/Twitter AI circles, open-source, hackathons, devtool communities).
Pedigree (DevRel/growth at top AI or devtool companies like Vercel, Hugging Face, Replicate, LangChain, Modal, ElevenLabs, Anthropic, OpenAI, Supabase, Railway, Browserbase; founders of funded startups; top schools) is a strong positive signal and correlates with quality, but is neither necessary nor sufficient — the artifact record is what qualifies someone.
Location: NYC or clearly US-based and mobile. In person.
